We hope you all are having a good start to your week! Miigwetch for your continual support for turtles who have been on land this past week, injured by fishing hooks, or checking nests.
UPDATES:
Last week we received a call on our Hotline about Red-Eared Slider from the Brickworks pond that had a three-prong fishing hook in her mouth and leg. Due to her not being native to these waters, she could not be transported to TWC. Miigwetch to volunteer Sophie for picking up turtle and transporting her to me. Miigwetch to volunteer Paula, who is also a vet, for recommending her friend Mark's Kahu Animal Hospital. Both Mark and Paula removed the multiple hooks from turtle after more than an hour. The next day I transported turtle to Links Road Animal Clinic for an assessment and then to Animal Services. Turtle is now receiving medical treatment for the next three weeks and antibiotics until her wounds close.
Today, the Hotline received a call about Snapping Turtle caught with a fishing hook. Turtle was transported to Toronto Wildlife Centre for care.
Please monitor Painted Turtle in Humber pond identified with a swollen face/neck and peeling of scutes. Please call the Hotline immediately if you see them.

Mark and his staff showed great care and concern for turtle. Mark was determined to help turtle and did so without charge! The clinic's waiting room is comfortable with both human and animal companion in mind. A snack and beverage station is set up to comfort humans during an emotional experience.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE CEREMONY: Wednesday, the 5th 7-9pm
Grandmother Vivian has shared she isn't being strict with protocol. Therefore if you have used any recreational substances within the last four days, that is fine. Just please refrain from using them prior to the ceremony.

HATCHLING TRAINING:
Reminder to register for hatchling training if you have not been with hatchlings this year. This training is mandatory for volunteering this season
