At Turtle Protectors / Mishiikenh Gizhaasowin, we connect with our community to promote conservation and respect for our Turtle relatives. Participate in our events to engage with nature, learn about indigenous ways and turtle protection, and meet with like-minded people.
Whether you're new or a long-time supporter, our events provide opportunities for everyone to support turtles in Tkaronto's urban parks. From walks and volunteer days to monitor parks and awareness campaigns, there's something for everyone. Your involvement makes a difference!
Two-eyed Seeing Night Wetland Walk
When taking a walk in the park at this time of year, just superficially glancing into the bare woods, over the still, cold water and the empty mown lawns, the park could seem lifeless to some. – The migrating birds have left. Reptiles, amphibians, insects and some bats have disappeared into their long winter sleep. Plants, shrubs and broadleaf trees have gone dormant. But really - the park is anything but lifeless!
On this walk we want to sense, imagine and admire some of our High Park winter animal relatives. Some of them skillfully use the darkness, even in winter, to find food, to travel and to be out and about in the quiet. We will chat about turtles in brumation, owls, beavers, rabbits, coyotes, foxes and more.
