Education Programs
Turtle Protectors co-founders Carolynne Crawley and Jenny Davis are experienced educators who provide engaging, place-based educational programming combining Indigenous knowledge systems with urban ecology and many amazing turtle stories.
Our offerings include interactive workshops and guided walk-and-talks that raise awareness of turtle protection while also empowering participants with practical ways to support biodiversity in their communities. Please contact us if you are interested in any of our offerings.
All experiences focus upon reconcili-action through the concept of Etuaptmumk (Two-Eyed Seeing), spoken of by Mi’kmaw Elder Albert Marshall.
In Marshall's words "Two-Eyed Seeing” means learning to see from one eye with the strengths of Indigenous ways of knowing, and from the other eye with the strengths of Western ways of knowing - using both of these eyes together.
Programs for Schools
We offer educational programs that take place in schools, virtually, and in Toronto parks.
Presentations: Carolynne and Jenny bring in large turtle puppet used in our annual Turtles on the Move parade and share an engaging slideshow presentation. Also available virtually.
Field trips: Students can join us in any of the parks we operate in. In addition to learning about two of Ontario's species at risk (Midland Painted Turtle and Snapping Turtle), students will leave with a shift in perspective. Each session includes a welcoming and closing circle and a walk with engaging activities.
Team Building Programs
We partner with workplaces to deliver meaningful programs grounded in Two-Eyed Seeing, exploring our shared responsibility to address human impacts on turtles and all our relations.
Offerings include engaging storytelling presentations (virtual or in-person) led by Carolynne and Jenny, as well as seasonal field experiences from April to October that combine guided walks, hands-on activities, and opening and closing circles to foster connection, learning, and collective action.
