Aaniin Everyone,

It has been a busy week! We are entering the peak of nesting season. Rain is forecasted for many days this week. This will likely entice turtles to nest!

UPDATES:

Twenty-seven nests have been protected since the beginning of nesting season. Miigwetch!
Many more turtles besides those that nested, were protected while on land. Some crossed roads, did test digs, or were spotted by volunteers or callers while returning to water, miigwetch!
Sadly, Mama Snapping Turtle that was struck on the road and had surgery at TWC didn't survive.
Mentors holding permits excavated three high-risk nests located in the playground, next to a road, and along a path. Eggs were transported to Scales, miigwetch Megan!

Friendly reminder to sign up for shifts. We need more people signing up in all parks except Brickworks. We are entering the peak of nesting season.
It would be great to have people who cycle to monitor roads around High Park (Ellis Ave and Ellis Park Road especially) and Scarlett Road next to Smythe Park

TURTLE POPULATION STUDY:
