May 11 - Weekly Volunteer Email
Aaniin Everyone!
We hope you and your loved ones are doing well.
We are currently preparing for the upcoming nesting season which is only a couple of weeks away! But we are still in hatching season. Spring hatchlings in previous years emerged from nests even in June. We will inform Mentors of which nest protectors to remove prior to nesting season.
WEATHER:
Later this week, temperatures will rise into the 20's. This will likely encourage Hatchlings to emerge from nests especially after this week's rainfall. Please sign up for shifts!
Lightning and high winds: Please avoid being in the park during lightning and winds of more than 45 km/hr for safety reasons. Your safety is a priority! If you are in the park, please avoid taking cover under trees.
CHECKING PROTECTED NESTS:
Miigwetch everyone for checking nests, signing up for shifts, supporting the population study, noticing and helping animal kin in need and for your compassion!
Volunteers in the new parks (Humber Bay, Biidaasige, Woodbine) can begin signing up for scouting shifts to familiarize themselves with the park. Once the nesting season begins in late May, all new volunteers please remember to fulfill the three-hour weekly commitment.
NEW VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT:
There are two scheduled Information Sessions this week (May 11th and 14th) from 7pm to 8pm. If you know anyone who may be interested, they can find the Zoom link on the Volunteer page of our website.
SIGNAL APP:
There are so many chat groups! It can be confusing to know which one to use. Adore, Hotline Operator, has added a brief description for each chat for clarification. We know it will take time for everyone to adjust to knowing which chat to use. It is okay for people to make mistakes. Mentors will kindly remind volunteers which chat to use. You can also review the email with subject heading Signal App - Please Read Carefully.
